Computer security refers to a technological and administrant security protection adopted for data processing system, covering computer hardware, software, keeping data from being damaged, corrected or exposed. Today, I am going to talk about how to protect your computer.

1. Shut off the bugs

No software can be exempt from bugs, errors and omissions as well as security bugs. No computer under any brand or developed by any group is immune from such problems. In order to keep your PC safe, the first thing to do is to obtain and install the security patches. Most manufacturers provide automatic or semi-automatic tools for the customers to access the patches, with Windows Update and Office Update leading ahead.

2. Keep the intruder from entering

Today, most customers are aware that it is necessary to use things like firewall to keep the intruder from entering your computer. Nearly everyone has a basic firewall installed. Furthermore, some computer gadgets also can serve as hardware firewall, including a Router and NAT device.

3. Stop infection from going further

The first two approaches are very useful. However, some other malicious softwares can also intrude into your computer in other ways, especially through the infection from the creditable information source. For example, a computer is infected with virus from other computers located in the same office or sharing the same local area network. Therefore, it is essential to equip each PC with an efficient and latest anti-virus protection. There are many free anti-virus tools and services available on the internet, which makes it easier for us to protect your PCs against the malicious software.

4. Prevent infection occurring repeatedly

Even if you use the best anti-virus software, you still can not guarantee your PC will be protected from all types of malicious software which controls your computer once it gets in there. Fortunately, there are also a lot of cheap or even free PC widgets which offer much help for your computer security, such as Antispyware developed by Microsoft and SpywareBlaster by Javacool. Some other widgets also help monitor and keep the malicious software going into your PC, such as StartUpMonitor and Ad-Aware.

5. Block the access to your computer

A useful password can help the malicious software registering into your computer or serve as an administrator privilege. To make your computer safer, you also can set up a password to protect your documents, files or the entire hard disc. A useful password that restrains the right to access your PC, the account number, some key documents and files is the last safeguard against the intruders.
